According to The Wall Street Journal, Google is planning on merging its two operating systems, Chrome OS and Android, to create one combined offering by 2017.

The paper reported last night that the company “plans to fold its Chrome operating system for personal computers into its Android mobile operating system” and that “Google engineers have been working for roughly two years to combine the operating systems and have made progress recently”.

If Google does plan on folding Chrome OS into Android, mobile users should expect greater mobile functionality on some of Google’s productivity apps, including Docs; while significant changes can be expected for Chromebook users.
