Switching mobile networks is a lot easier than you might think. There’s no need to worry about losing your current phone number, it makes the move with you. Let us take you through it step by step.

Step 1: Check your current contract

Are you on bill pay? Are you out of contract? An iD Mobile customer?  If so, great; you’re ready to make the switch.

If you are still in contract with your current network, let them know you want to move and have a look at their terms and conditions.

If you’re on prepay, you can move at any time.

Step 2: Choose your new network and plan

Maybe you’re looking to switch to a high speed 4G network. Maybe you feel you’re paying too much with your current provider. With Carphone Warehouse, you can compare plans from all the main networks.

Step 3: Call into a Carphone Warehouse store

At the moment, we can only switch you to a new network in person, so find your nearest store and call in whenever is convenient. If you’ve spotted a phone you like on our website, you can reserve it in that store with Click and Collect.

Make sure to bring your current phone with your current active SIM inside.

If you’re looking to switch to a bill pay plan, you’ll need:
  • Photo ID (driver’s licence/passport)
  • Recent proof of address (e.g. a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months)
  • Direct debit details

If you’re on a bill pay plan with your current network, you should also bring a recent bill from them.

If you’re on a prepay plan and want to switch to another network’s prepay plan, all you need is your phone.

Step 4: Let us make the switch

We’ll set you up on your new network using the details you provide.

We’ll need to confirm your current number by calling your phone. Depending on the new network you’ve chosen, you might also receive a text to confirm the switch. You may need to respond to this text before we can complete the process.

Once your new account is set up, you’re nearly ready to go.

Step 5: Watch your signal

You’ll get a new SIM from us before you leave the store, but don’t try to use it (or your new phone, if you bought one) just yet. Depending on the new network you’ve chosen, it may take between 2 and 24 hours for your number to switch.

Keep an eye on your phone’s signal. At some point, you’ll lose coverage and it won’t come back.

Pop in your new SIM or power up your new phone. That’s it. The switch is made. Welcome to your new network.
